Malta’s medical needs are covered by one main hospital, Mater Dei, located in Msida. There are also a number of public clinics and private clinics/hospitals located in practically all towns and villages on the island. European nationals can get free medical health care in public clinics and Mater Dei Hospital on presentation of a valid E111 card (European Health Insurance Card) and ID/Passport. Bear in mind that should you wish to be treated by a private doctor or in a private clinic/hospital, then you would need to pay for all expenses – it is highly recommended to have adequate medical insurance as fees can be expensive.
