After a night of stormy weather, many women woke up this morning to praises of “Happy Women’s Day” and surrounded by beautiful yellow flowers to mark the occasion. OK, maybe a slight exaggeration, but still, many male and female friends exchange the complimentary greeting to celebrate all those fabulous women in their lives. It is a simple gesture of appreciation to those mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts etc. who have made a difference in your life. Unfortunately, although a fantastic day to celebrate the beauty and awesomeness of these fabulous women, was marred by tragic news this morning that the Maltese islands has lost one of its most iconic and beloved natural treasures- The Azure window in Dwejra, Gozo. The window finally succumbed to the forces of Mother Nature this morning, completely collapsing into the sea after being battered by strong forces for over 24 hours.
For those who have never visited, photos can’t do justice to the majestic beauty of this amazing area. The whole area is a dream, from the azure window, the inland sea, the Blue Hole and the amazing coral and diving opportunities in this area. Many of us, stared in shock as photos emerged on the area now, with many sadly stating “It’s as though it was never there”.
We are a tiny island and hold our marvellous treasures close to our hearts. We are a nation honoured of our cultural and natural history and take pride in the richness of both considering our size.

To end my thoughts for today, maybe take a moment to appreciate the beauty of everything that surrounds us, from the amazing place we live to the wonderful people around us.
